ZeeboiMichael Stewart believes Rangers should pull out all the stops to lure Greg Taylor across the Old Firm divide once his Celtic contract expires at season’s end.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has already made it clear that the left back will conclude his six-year tenure at Parkhead this summer, with Kieran Tierney lined up as his successor, having agreed to a pre-contract return from Arsenal.
The Scottish international has caught the eye of Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian champions—now led by 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro—who held Celtic to a stalemate in this season’s Champions League.
Speculation has swirled about a blockbuster switch to Ibrox, and Stewart argues Rangers should seize the chance to do something unseen since Robert Campbell’s move 119 years ago: sign a first-team player straight from their arch-rivals.
On the Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club, he shared: “I actually floated this idea two or three weeks ago. From a Rangers perspective, yeah I would.
“I don’t know what Greg Taylor will be thinking, but from Rangers perspective, it’s a free transfer and he is in the Scotland squad so it’s another Scottish player which is a huge asset.
“I don’t know whether Greg Taylor would be interested but he’s a quality player. But for me he’s better than Jefte and he’s better than (Ridvan) Yilmaz. So I would do it.”
This follows a similar endorsement from Ibrox icon Kris Boyd, who recently told the Scottish Sun’s YouTube channel that pursuing the Scotland star could be a smart move.
He said: “It wouldn’t be the worst one for me for my club to have a little conversation with him. Could he switch sides in Glasgow?
“I know the rivalry between the two clubs but he’s Scottish and he ticks the boxes. You could ask the question.
“Greg has shown for a period of time now how consistent he has been. If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he wants to play regularly.”
