Tottenham Hotspur are currently fifth in the standings, just behind the top four.
Their north London rivals Arsenal have the same number of points and are in 4th place, but have played one game fewer.
Tottenham have started the season very well, going unbeaten in their first 10 games, winning eight and drawing two.
However, a string of injuries temporarily interrupted their momentum. However, they have recently regained their form and have won four of their last six games. The only defeat in that period was a 4-2 loss to Brighton.
On the other hand, Arsenal, who were initially considered a strong title contender, have faced a drop in form. Mikel Arteta’s team has been struggling recently, losing three of their last five league games.
The former Liverpool man, who has become an insider in Liverpool, is still sceptical about Tottenham finishing ahead of their London rivals, despite Tottenham’s excellent display and Arsenal’s contrasting performance.
Speaking to the Stick to Football podcast, Carragher expressed his doubts about Spurs finishing above Liverpool or Arsenal.
Carragher believes that Spurs will struggle more with Aston Villa for fourth place, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal confirmed to be the top three.
He stated, “If there was a team from Liverpool that made the list where they could finish in first place, there would have to be another game:
“I don’t think Tottenham will finish above Liverpool or Arsenal. I don’t see that happening.
“I think Tottenham will be fighting with Aston Villa for fourth or fifth top this season.”
Carragher’s predictions is surprising given how well Spurs are playing. And despite the injury crisis they have dominated, sit within touching distance of the top four and are only 5 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
But Spurs fans will be more than happy with a top-four finish in Anzhi’s debut season. They have made great strides under the Australian, and he has only been with them for half a season.
The recent signings of Tim Werner and Rado Dragusin and the return of key players like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison have further boosted the team’s ambitions to make a strong push for a win in the crucial part of the season. We do not rule out the possibility of challenging for the championship title.
