James Maddison thanks Tottenham Hotspur fans after returning from injury.

Maddison spent almost three months recovering from an ankle injury. The summer signing has not featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side since their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League in November.

On Friday night, the 27-year-old came on for Spurs in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup. Maddison came on for Rodrigo Bentancur in the 73rd minute and received a warm welcome at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although Maddison lost, he was grateful for the support he received from Tottenham fans. The midfielder posted a message to Spurs fans on his Instagram story, expressing his joy at his long-awaited return from injury.

“Great to be back,” Maddison wrote. “Thank you so much for the reception, it meant a lot to me.

“Now I can’t wait to get back to playing. COYS (heart emoji)

Maddison hopes to take part in a Premier League game for the first time in nearly three months on Wednesday night when Spurs host Brentford. Tottenham will start the game in fifth place in the league table and eight points ahead of leaders Liverpool.

Postecoglou spoke about the decision to have Maddison appear only once in the match against Man City. The Spurs boss explained how important it is to ensure that Maddison’s fitness is carefully monitored as the team faces a tough run of games.
