Newcastle United could sign a new midfielder before the end of the January transfer window, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano exclusively reported for GIVEMESPORT on the possibility of adding another body in the middle of the park, hinting that it could depend on the expenditure.
Eddie Howe’s team has already been decimated by injuries this season, and the midfield position has become somewhat problematic. Young Lewis Miley has joined the senior side, perhaps sooner than the club would have liked. Therefore, in the last days of the window, the priority could be to secure the signing of another central midfielder.
Like many other teams in the Premier League, the Magpies will have to make sure that they continue to meet the profit and sustainability regulations in this division. Since the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund took over at St James’ Park, the north-east team has spent heavily and may have to sell in order to buy in the coming days.
Howe admits there are possible expenses

Alex Crook, a reporter for talkSPORT, has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle could consider selling one of their key star players to fund a squad overhaul, similar to the way Aston Villa sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City. Crook cites Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak as players of interest.
Journalist Dean Jones also revealed to GIVEMESPORT that Miguel Almiron could be a player that Newcastle could sacrifice for reinforcements in the coming days, as they could realise a considerable sum for him. Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab are considering buying the Paraguayan winger this month and the Magpies are likely to demand a fee of around £30 million. Given Almiron’s age and inconsistency in a Newcastle jersey, it would certainly make more sense to offload the 29-year-old than to opt for Guimaraes, Botman or Issak.
Callum Wilson could also be sold before the deadline. Like Almiron, Wilson is in the latter stages of his career and has injury problems, so it is known that the Magpies would consider sanctioning a sale if an offer of around £18m came to the table. Although Wilson is still regarded as a key player at St James’ Park, something has to give if Howe and his team want to bring in reinforcements.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle have now made an approach to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, but any deal is likely to depend on Howe’s side making a significant sale to fund their pursuit. The youngster is also admired by Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, with bids in excess of £50m likely to be considered.
