Martin Keown criticises Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario against Everton
Tottenham Hotspur failed to win against Everton on Saturday afternoon. The Premier League match at Goodison Park ended in a 2-2 draw.
Guglielmo Vicario started in goal for Spurs. The 27-year-old goalkeeper did not play a good game.
Perhaps the Italian could have pointed out that Jack Harrison pushed the ball back at him without trying to win it on Everton’s first goal, but he could certainly have done better on the second goal. The goalkeeper should have been braver with Jarrad Branthwaite’s header.
Martin Keown watched the game for BBC Sport and was not impressed:
Keown said of Vicario on Final Score: “I have to say Everton played really well. In the end they managed to get another important point which will take them out of the bottom half of the table, and that could prove to be very important.
“Tottenham are having problems scoring goals with [their goalkeeper] Guglielmo Vicario. He should have done better [in both Everton goals].”
My opinion: Guglielmo Vicario will improve
In my opinion, Guglielmo Vicario will learn from his experience against Everton and improve. I expect the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper to do well in the next game.
Vicario is a very good goalkeeper. The £17.2 million goalkeeper (Sky Sports) has done well at Tottenham since his transfer from Empoli in the summer of 2023.
Just because the Italian has had one bad game does not mean that we should all start criticising him.
Mistakes happen. Vicario will learn from the Everton game, and so will Tottenham.
Maybe Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou will help Vicario in the line-ups from now on by putting Tottenham’s outside game around him.
