Paul Merson has named the player he believes will be out of Tottenham Hotspur’s attack when Spurs take on Wolves this weekend, as he has backed Heung-Min Son to start.
Tottenham received a lot of reinforcements in the last round against Brighton. Heung-min Son is back after international duty at the Asian Cup.
The Tottenham captain provided the winner for Brennan Johnson in the 96th minute. So it’s no surprise that Paul Merson is backing the striker to start against Wolves this weekend.
Paul Merson thinks Dejan Kulusevski could be out:
Merson previously thought that Brennan Johnson could drop out of the squad for Son. However, speaking to Sportskeeda, he now thinks that it might be another player who will make way at the weekend.
“I have a good feeling about this game – I can see it being entertaining and with a lot of goals. Son Heung-min is ready to return to the starting eleven, so we’ll see who will be missing in the top three. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think it will be Dejan Kulushevski who will step down and Timo Werner and Richarlison will play alongside the South Korean in attack,” he said.
Plenty of options for Ange Postecoglou:
Dejan Kulusevski has not been so convincing in recent weeks. It’s been two months since the £25 million Swede scored a goal or an assist in the Premier League.
He does much more than that for the team. Kulusevski looks like someone who is trying very hard for the team. But Ange Postecoglou now has an embarrassment of riches in his final third.
Some would say that Werner has not been good enough since he joined Tottenham in January. Johnson, meanwhile, is waiting for the moment when it all comes together. So Postecoglou, as Merson notes, could easily have taken a different path.
One thing that seems certain is that Son really needs to get back into the starting line-up for what could be a tricky game against Gary O’Neil’s team.
