Said Benrahma says he had no hesitation in leaving West Ham for Lyon in the January transfer window.
Said Benrahma has not been afraid to touch the Kladivars since he left the club as a loan player at the end of January. From claiming that he has only just started to feel confidence now that he has moved, to claiming that Lyon train more intensively than West Ham, it is clear that he has not been happy in east London.
So it is not surprising that he has once again taken it out on West Ham and acted as if he cannot wait to leave the club. “Lyon have shown a genuine interest in me. There was no hesitation about it. Then I feel the support of Lyon,” he said, before describing how he felt when he scored his first goal for the club. “I was extremely happy, it freed me. After the goal, I felt more at peace with the ball. So I tried to play as well as I could.”
The vast majority of West Ham fans gave Benraham far more time than his abilities warranted, so the suggestion that he felt no support from the East London faithful is incomprehensible. Furthermore, it is also surprising that a player would attack the club he is still employed at so much – the French side do not seem to be committed to a permanent move.
If he doesn’t do well in Ligue 1, there is a good chance that the Algerian will be back in a claret and blue jersey next season, which would make his comments very awkward indeed.
