“He was on FIRE” – Joe Cole singles out ONE West Ham star that blew him away, calls him the main reason David Moyes picked up the Win in the Europa League

December 1, 2023

Joe Cole absolutely raved about one West Ham United player in particular after our Europa League win over Backa Topola last night.

West Ham beat Backa Topola 1-0 out in Serbia, with Joe Cole praising one player to the absolute hilt, and we remained at the summit of Europa League Group A as a result.

The Hammers now only have to draw with Freiburg at the London Stadium in the final group stage game in order to finish top, and avoid a play-off tie with one of the clubs dropping out of the Champions League.

David Moyes wouldn’t have been happy with the performance of his players but he’ll be delighted with the result in general when he wakes up this morning.

The brilliant delivery from Maxwel Cornet and the superb finish by Tomas Soucek really got us out of a hole. And the latter out of those two really has been in sensational goalscoring form this season…

Joe Cole raves about West Ham star after Europa League win:

The former Hammer was on punditry duty for last night’s European clash.

And he offered high words of praise for Soucek after the game on TNT Sports (Thursday November 30th, 7:40pm):

“He’s a player who plays to his attributes. He’s a runner and a very good finisher. He’s on flames, he really is. When you’re going out for a game of football when the chips are down, you can rely on him.”

He has been in fine form recently, and rallied his teammates when we were 1-0 down away at Burnley on Saturday.

Soucek now has seven goals in 19 games to his name this season (Transfermarkt), after returning to a more attacking role since Declan Rice’s exit.

The Czech Republic international has been a much maligned figure at the London Stadium over the past couple of years, due to his sub-par footballing ability.

However, he puts his body on the line for the Hammers week in, week out – that’s all we want as West Ham fans right?

Soucek is a top-class finisher as well, and he has proved that for West Ham this season – most recently last night in the Europa League against Backa Topola. Joe Cole raved about the 28-year-old and rightly so – he’s been excellent for us over the past few weeks.
