Tottenham Hotspur are sweating over the fitness of Heung-Min Son ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United (kick-off 4:30pm).

Son was forced off in the latter stages of the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Thursday night and was in visible discomfort with his back as he sat down on the bench.

Spurs will assess the South Korean in the build-up to the game, which falls just three days after their last. Newcastle also head into the game on the back of a defeat after losing 3-0 at Everton.

“No update yet,” Ange Postecoglou said. “We’ll see how he is because he was a bit sore after the game. We’ll wait and see what the outcome is for Sunday. There’s nothing, apart from Sonny, that looks too significant.”

Spurs are set to welcome back Pape Sarr from injury but remain without Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Manor Solomon and Eric Dier.

The Magpies, meanwhile, will be without the bulk of their squad but Eddie Howe is hopeful that some players will return for the trip to North London.

Speaking after the loss at Goodison Park, Howe said: “The players who are injured at the moment were working today at the training ground so I’m hopeful we can get some support.”

Jamaal Lascelles was Newcastle’s latest casualty in midweek. Howe confirmed he had picked up a dead leg, and while it isn’t serious, the quick turnaround could rule the club’s skipper out of Sunday.
