Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly decided to sell Giovani Lo Celso, who was once recommended by Lionel Messi to Barcelona boss Xavi, and replace him with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher next month.
Lo Celso initially struggled to establish himself at Spurs after transferring in 2019 and was loaned out to Villarreal for 18 months before joining Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
The Argentine was recommended to Xavi by Messi a few years ago and is expected to be on the club’s list of targets in the summer. When Messi decided not to return to the Nou Camp, he was earmarked as a potential target but ended up staying at Tottenham after Postecoglou prevented his departure.
It seems that this move could be renewed in January, as Barcelona are reportedly still keen to bring Lo Celso to Spain. Tottenham are currently considering his future in north London and could sell him for the right price next month, according to 90min.
The report states that although Postecoglou appreciates what Lo Celso has to offer, the club is keeping its options open and is exploring options for other central strikers. Gallagher, who was linked with a move to Spurs in the summer, is said to be among the names on the list of potential replacements.
Chelsea were reportedly planning a new deal for Gallagher at the start of the season, but changed their mind and could be ready to sell him in January, according to talkSPORT. The Blues are hoping to raise money for a new striker, with Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney said to be on their radar.
Tottenham are said to be ready to attack if Gallagher is sold, with Postecoglou reportedly keen on the former Crystal Palace loanee. However, it seems that any deal would be contingent on Lo Celso staying or leaving, a decision that will have to be made in the coming weeks.
