Everton have no interest in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope, despite recent speculation, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
The outlet stated on 24 September, “TEAMtalk sources say the Toffees have no interest in (Jordan) Pickford’s England teammate.”
This follows a report from Alan Nixon via his Patreon on 15 September, which suggested that Pope was on Sean Dyche’s radar and that Jordan Pickford’s position at Goodison Park could be under threat.
However, TEAMtalk insists that claims Pickford could be on his way out of Everton “are wide of the mark.”
The idea of Everton replacing Pickford with Pope doesn’t add up. While Pickford’s form this season has been below his usual standards, it’s important to remember his consistent performances for the Toffees over the years.
He has been a reliable figure in goal, and casting him aside after a poor start to the season would be a rash move.
Furthermore, bringing in Pope would likely come with a hefty price tag, and with Everton currently operating under financial constraints, splashing out on a goalkeeper wouldn’t be a priority.
It’s also worth noting that Pickford remains Gareth Southgate’s first-choice for England, ahead of Pope. It would seem illogical to sign Pope for a considerable fee only to displace Pickford, who retains the faith of both his club and country.
